What Jewellery to Wear on New Year's Eve (When It's 30 Degrees Out)
Most New Year's Eve style advice is written for the northern hemisphere: velvet, sequins and somewhere warm to stand. In Australia, NYE is a rooftop in 30-degree heat, a beach with fireworks over the water, or a backyard party that ends in the pool.
So the jewellery has two jobs. It needs to catch the light at midnight, and it needs to get through the heat, the dancing and the last swim of the year without needing to come off.
Start with the earrings
Earrings do the most work in party photos because they sit right next to your face. NYE is the night to go one step bolder than usual.
Nightfall Earrings | $65
Oval-cut studs with gold pear-cut drops. Built for the night, not just the entrance. They move when you do and catch every flash of light.
Sunspun Earrings | $59
Twisted, textured open hoops. Lightweight enough for a long, hot night, with enough presence to carry a simple dress.
Add sparkle to the hands
Every glass gets raised at midnight, so your hands end up in the photos. One ring with a stone does more than three plain bands.
Constellation Ring | $55
Mismatched pear and round stones across a fine open band. A party ring by design.
Afterlight Ring | $65
A single marquise-cut stone wrapped off-centre in a fine band, so the sparkle moves as you do.
Starlight Ring | $65
A fluid open band with a hint of shine, made for days that turn into nights.
For more edge, swap the sparkle for the Sun Serpent Ring ($69), a coiled gold snake worn on the index finger.
Finish with the wrist
Sundrop Bracelet | $65
A fine gold chain centred with a single pear-cut stone. It repeats the sparkle from your rings without competing with them.
How much is too much?
Pick one focal point. If you're wearing drop earrings, keep the necklace simple or skip it. If your hands are stacked, choose studs. A strapless or low-cut neckline is the exception: it leaves room for earrings and a fine chain together. For more on building a ring stack, see how to stack rings.
Why waterproof matters at midnight
An Australian NYE is hot, sweaty and often ends in water. Cheap party jewellery tarnishes, irritates skin or turns your fingers green before the countdown. Every Golden Hour piece is 18k gold plated using PVD over 316L stainless steel, so it's waterproof, tarnish-resistant and hypoallergenic. You won't have to take it off for the last swim of the year.
